We treat the proceeds from home sales as negative spending on housing. In years you sell homes, your total housing expenditures, and, potentially, your total spending in a given year may be negative. In other words, a net gain on the sale of a home would be displayed as negative spending. To see more detail for the amounts that make up the Total Spending column, review the Spending Overview screen.
